RUSSIAN LAW WEEK 2018 IN LONDON TO BE SPONSORED BY RUSTAM KURMAEV & PARTNERS

Rustam Kurmaev & Partners will partner with and sponsor Russian Law Week 2018, an annual conference to be held in London. The event is supported by the Bar Council and the Law Society of England and Wales and will take place on November 12-14, 2018.

It is the fifth Russian Law Week to be held in London. Together with the English Law Week in Moscow, it is an annual opportunity for leading Russian and UK law experts to meet, exchange views, and network. This year, London will host the meeting of top legal professionals who will discuss the large-scale reform of the Russian judicial system and process, changes to bankruptcy law, regulation of the legal services market, the impact of sanctions on Russian and international law firms, and other challenges the law community has faced this year. Panels will be arranged to discuss the use of technology and innovations in legal business, interpretation of ethical rules and standards in international arbitration, and improvements of legal professionals’ skills.

Rustam Kurmaev, managing partner of Rustam Kurmaev & Partners, will take part in the panel discussion which will lead the first day of the conference. The panel, Law Firms in Russia: Innovations, Challenges, and Opportunities for Russian and International Players, will address a wide range of issues associated with the future of the legal profession in Russian. Among other topics, the expert will discuss competition in the Russian legal market, use of English law for contracts given the current geopolitical situation, the impact of sanctions on Russian and international firms, advancement of technologies and innovations in legal advisory services, gender diversity in the legal profession, etc.

Dmitry Kletochkin, who heads restructuring and bankruptcy practice at Rustam Kurmaev & Partners, will speak at the session addressing changes to Russia’s bankruptcy legislation. Dmitry, a renowned expert in this segment, will share his views on the developments a year after the reform of the laws regulating liability of controlling persons, and will review the prospects for changes to Russian laws which are currently debated by Russian legislators.
